Ship 'Royal Charlie' sailed Southampton June 1860 for Table Bay, Cape Town.

I have a passenger list for the 'Royal Charlie' sailing from Southampton on the 15 June 1860 to Table Bay, Sth Africa. There was 226 souls, 181 adults and 45 children with 1 birth at sea.

Daniel and Catherine McAneny are listed as passengers.

Is there a way to find out who the parents of this child would be and even the child's name?

Family have suggested that this child was born to Daniel and Catherine McANENY.
From research I found they came from Amargh, Ireland and married in the catholic church, Collegeland, Ireland.

Any information would be appreciated, Rose.

Yes I have been chasing this for awhile but don't quite get there!!!!
At least I can see on the passenger list that there was a child born at sea.

Do you know how to search for Captain's/Ship's log?

Owner was a Mr F. A. Castle
Captain was James Garrick

A related story it seems. I could not find any birth at sea announcements for June 1860 for that ship.

that indicates this couple sailed from South Africa to New Zealand
in Dec 1864 with 2 children a son named Thomas 5 yrs old and a daughter 1

The message on the Ireland site is one I have put there - but thanks for the mention, raonull4.

I have since found a baptism record for John, parents Daniel McEneny and Catherine Mackle in  Loughgall and Tartaraghan, County of Amargh, dated 21 Sept 1859. Which I find interesting as Catherine and Daniel are listed as passengers on the Royal Charlie departing Southampton 15 June 1860 and arriving in Cape Town, Sth Africa 31 Aug 1860, but there is no mention of a child. Then when they came on to NZ on the Maori they had Tom and Anne - no mention of a John.
I have found that they did have a son named Tom and his certificates state he was born in Sth Africa and his parents are Daniel and Catherine.
There is a possibility that the first John died however I descend from John McAneney and his parents being Daniel and Catherine. They may have had another child in NZ named John.

Do you know how to search for Captain's/Ship's log?

I take it you have looked at the Register of Births Marriages and Deaths at sea available from FindMyPast?
Only two sets of Logbooks for ROYAL CHARLIE official number 945 seem to have survived one for 1861 the other for 1868.
It could be that ROYAL CHARLIE did not return to a UK port until 1861.Therefor the answer you are looking for may be contained within.

MAORI

There were three British ships around in 1860/61/62 with this name. An educated guess is MAORI O/N 24710 is the vessel your ancestors sailed on. Her 1861 and 1862 Logbooks should be at National Maritime Museum, Greenwich. You should be able to obtain the relevent pages by Royal Mail. You need to fill out the linked form correctly.
