Cap badge identification
« on: Saturday 15 February 20 20:21 GMT (UK) »
Good evening, could this cap badge be identified please?  I am told the caps belonged to my Great uncle who was in the RAF during ww2, however this badge looks like it my by Royal Artillery??  Any help is appreciated.

Kind Regards

Well that looks like the symbol of a grenade, old type .
But not at all sure what that signifies.
Not necessarily The Grenadier Guards , some very knowledgeable people on R.C. who will give you correct info.
Viktoria.

The badge is the Royal Artillery grenade badge on an RA side hat (colloquial term).  RA motto "Ubique" (everywhere) can be seen.  Distinguished from a Royal Engineers grenade which has additional "flames" in the lower centre.

Don't recognise the top one.  Neither are RAF.

Thanks for the identification, being RA, I think the story must have become confused over the years within the Family.  The top Cap I will investigate further, looks like it might be some kind of generic forage cap.

The colour of the piping and of the cap will identify the corps or regiment. I do find reference to ARP members having yellow piping and not all had a badge so tentatively - ARP.

If you can take a photo of the two buttons on the front of the upper cap that will likely indicate what Regiment/Corps the cap belongs to.
Good luck with your query.
(1) Janions of Cheshire, Lancashire, Hawaii, Vancouver and Seattle.
(2) Gregorys of Tarporley, Cheshire.
(3) Pughs of 'The New Pale' near Frodsham and Delamere in Cheshire.
(4) Nevills of Llanelly, Llangennech and Felinfoel.
(5) Yaldens of Ovington/Lovington in Hampshire.

The cap is not generic as the colour combination is a regimental one.

Is the top panel dark blue or yellow?

Hi, I have been able to take some better photos of the Cap, hopefully the colour coordination and the close up of the buttons may help identification?  Can anyone advise?

Many thanks
