Gallateley
« on: Tuesday 18 February 20 13:26 GMT (UK) »
Does anyone have information of a family name Gallateley of Clonmel or in Co Tipperary. My interest is in a Clarinda Gallateley or father Peter.
Clarinda married Johnston Morton in 1848 at St Marys church, they had 2 children John, born in Clonmel in 1855 and George born Birkenhead 1861.
Short of any further clues apart from Clarindas Death in Liverpool 1880. Help would be appreciated, please!
Morton - Tipperary, Longford/Clonmel Ireland
Gallatley - Ireland,
Brownbill - Liverpool, Prescot
Burberry - Dorking
Bonnyman - Elgin/Buckie/St Albans

A really huge thank you for the lead, just got to delve a bit further back with that information. I think some one.....   Johnston,  has been telling small porkies about his fathers profession when he emigrated to Liverpool/Birkenhead, and married how third wife.. he claimed his father ...Edward was a Sergeant in the Irish Constabulary...No wonder there was no record of him in the RIC records.. thanks again..

Clarinda has been given the occupation of servant. From what I've seen girls living at home don't usually get an occupation no matter how much work they do so it's possible she was working away from home and had a job in her own right which of course makes things more difficult.

Clarinda and Johnston are both servants, so could be working away from home, Johnston is on uk census info as being born in Longford.

I did a bit more research and found a marriage of  Fanny Morton to John Williams seems to be a relative of Johnston, probably his sister. She married John Williams of an infantry regiment on 12 September, same fathers name Edward Morton, slightly differing fathers occupation this time Gate Keeper as opposed to Wood Ranger,

You have been so helpful, thanks, takes up so much time entering deadness, you have opened up a new path for me.
