I was going to ask you about the Bedford Electoral register  and I see you already have that info...

I haven't yet had chance to read through all the posts.........so this question may have been asked

Who registered the birth of the children?

In the case of the eldest child Evelyn May the birth was registered by a Mr Wildmarch, the oversdeer of the workhouse. Margarett Bradford nee Green...

Both the other children were registered by the mother.

Confusingly for Florence Cecilia she states Margaret Bradford maiden name DAY, but for John William she states Margaret Bradford nee Green.........

My elusive Maggie DAY....!

This might, a big might, be my Grandmother Maggie Day who abandoned my Father and his two elder sisters in Bedford, Bedfordshire in1918 and was never heard of again.

I have proven DNA ancestors from Baulking, Berkshire and have found this Maggie there in 1891 and 1901 censuses, but I am having great difficulty tracking her down in the 1911 UK Census.

Her birth was registered as Maggie and she is named Maggie in both censuses, but on my Father's birth certificate she is Margaret.

She may have married although she states maiden name DAY on birth certificate. She called herself Maggie BRADFORD on poor law records in Bedford although no marriage has been found. Any help greatly appreciated....

I'm having difficulties locating her in 1911 too  ??? Same as everyone else not seeing any marriage.

Are Maggie's parents Alfred Day & Amelia nee Coxhead? Married Mar qtr. 1880 Farringdon

Do you know Maggie’s date of birth?
If so, have you checked the 1939 register with just her first name and dob to see if you can find her there?

Have you checked all her siblings to see if she’s with them?

ER Abingdon Years 1920/1925
Alfred, Amelia, Ernest Alfred & William Henry Day are living Oldfield Cottages Parish of Baulking

Alfred Day’s address year 1915 is Cottage, Oldfield farm

The only connection with the surname ‘GREEN’ I’m seeing is her brother Ernest’s wife Elsie

Elsie Tryphena GREENAWAY (married first to a Calcutt then in 1925 to Ernest A Day)

Looks as if Sister Annie Day bn 11 Feb 1886 married surname is Stratton died 1978 age 91
a dau Elsie Florence bn 1910

and looks as if Brother William Henry bn 29 Mar 1892 possibly married Elsie Ackrill in 1925

Have you found any Maggie GREEN's on censuses?

Have you considered the Maggie Bradford entires posted leaving the UK for Canada in 1919?

Do you know Maggie’s date of birth?
No so I think a copy of Maggie's birth certificate for DOB may be the next step.

There is a candidate for Maggie Green living in Bedford in 1911, Margaret E Green but she goes on to marry someone else and is having children at the same time as Maggie.

As is usual for me I cannot find the birth of the Margaret Lilian Sewell, 27, born Baulking, Berkshire, living in Ealing !

You also wrote (after finding that baptism)
Quote from: Falconer66
There was a Cambridge address on the record.
I ordered the birth certificate and when it arrived it showed the same address as the baptism, so I was sure it was the correct one.
The only problem is that the mother gave her name as 'Harriett Bradford' !! The father was listed as a labourer and 'Army Pensioner' )

Could you confirm which it is, Margaret or Harriett?

As mentioned before, the "Army Pensioner" angle could be worth exploring?

OK, here we go

I wonder if anyone with access to WW1 pension records could help me?

I have the birth certificate of Frederick John Bradford born in Cambridge in 1919. I believe this may be a 'long lost' unknown uncle. A brother to my father and his two sisters born 1916, 1917 and 1918 and abandoned by their parents. The father of John Frederick is shown on the birth certificate as John Bradford (Same as my fathers BC) and the mother as Harriett Bradford (Nee Day). My fathers birth certificate shows the mother as Margaret Bradford (Nee Day) Strangely on the baptism record of Frederick she gives her name as Margaret Bradford!

The father John Bradford gives his occupation as Horse Keeper (Same as my fathers BC) and 'army pensioner'

I was hoping someone may be able to access the pension records to find out at little more about him.

The address on both the BC and the baptism record is 216 Newmarket Road, Cambridge in the parish of St Andrew the less.

Do you still think that the couple in Cambridge in 1919 are the same John and Margaret who had been in Bedford (the three children born Bedford were by then in care?) I ask because you haven't mentioned Cambridge this time round.

Do you think that the John and Margaret Williams at 216 Newmarket Road on the electoral registers in 1919 and 1920 could be John and Margaret Bradford?
