I hadn’t noticed that!  It does say 50 years.
Perhaps it’s 25 years each lol, (red brackets)

It’s definitely Gerald as a witness on the marriage certificate.  And clear as Gerald.

The RAF record is Arthur as far as I’m concerned Is probably correct because the wife and children are right.

The landlord definitely recorded his death so you are absolutely correct that he might have got age wrong. However my mother always insisted he was 33 when he died.  Considering she didn’t tell us much or accurately she coul we’ll have been wrong.

I don’t know how long Gerald was married as I can’t find anything about him although the Hackney census  looks promising as realised Shoreditch is at least in part in Hackney.

Thank you everyone. It’s beginning to feel like we’re getting somewhere at last

If it was Arthur in

Sorry to go on about the marriage certificate, but could Arthur have had a Father Gerald and a brother Gerald, and it was the brother who was a witness?

Well I think that could very well be an option.  I have no info about Gerald at all.  I do think that the family’s, especially the Healeys were not thrilled at the idea and that may explain why Louisa never had contact with her brother Freddie.  Certainly there was no witness from her side as far as I know.

Quite frankly my sister and I have absolutely no idea why our mother kept us in the dark about this .

 - interesting shipping list, 1922

Arthur Isaacs, 26, a tailor (typed "taylor"), wife at home Mrs A. Isaacs, 64 Shepherd Hill, Houghton Surrey
Heading to visit sister - Mr and Mrs J Wilson, Overlook Street, Mount Vernot, New York.  To stay 3 months.
5 foot 8 inches, fair complexion, grey eyes, brown hair.  Born London.

Seems to have been some issues with the typing, Mount Vernot = Mount Vernon.  Houghton = Stoughton in Guildford? (I see a child was born in that district in 1922).

I'm really struggling to spot Mr and Mrs J Wilson - probably "J" being the initial of the husband and Mrs Wilson being nee Isaacs

Oh this is really really interesting . Thank you so much. Well, Louisa (not Mrs A isaacs although they often took husband’s initial didn’t they?) did have one of her children in Guildford where her sister auntie Carrie (Caroline lived). If Arthur went to USA to visit a sister at that time it is understandable why Louisa was with her sister at that time.  And you clever thing have found what looks like the Wilson connection though quite why Louisa took on the surname and not Arthur I’m not sure. Brilliant.

In 1920 NY census there is a John J Wilson, English, living on Overlook Street. Age 45, arrived in 1901, parents English.

His wife, Isabella, 45, was born on Rhode Island and parents are German.

John J is a tailor.

In 1930 he is still a tailor in Overlook Street, arrived 1903, household:
John I Wilson   52
Isabella I Wilson   53
Emma Shuman   58

Emma is described as sister-in-law, single, born Rhode Island, parents German, alternative surname Human.

Added:
Emma was living with them in 1920, age 45, a boarder, looks like 'Thurman'.
