Once again many thanks for your extensive research for me. It is greatly appreciated. I am related to the Poores that went to Canada.
Sarah Bampton was Sarah Hunt when she married George Poore in 1819 George died in 1825 and Sarah married William Bampton.
Joseph, Charles and John are my 3rd Cousins 3 times removed!!
I will persevere in my attempt to find more about William's second marriage and his death.
It's been a pleasure to have been in contact with you.
Regards,
don.

I do have a copy which states William Poore, labourer and George Henderson, shepherd.
Witnesses were William Henderson and Rosina Nicholas
Charles and Elizabeth together with George, Mary Ann,Edward and Jane left Southampton for South Australia in 1853 aboard the Magdalena.George was listed separately from the rest under a heading of Young Males. Interesting to note that the witnesses to Charles's and Eliza's wedding were George and Betty Newman.
Charles,Eliza and children lived in 96 Morgans Vale.
Please will my William stand up!! All your information has been an inspiration for me to keep searching. Thank you so much for your time, effort and patience on my behalf.
Regards,Don.

There is a Marriage at Downton : May 8th 1843

William REEVES - full age, Bachelor, labourer, residence: Downton Morgans Vale
father: William REEVES - labourer

Betty NEWMAN full age, Spinster, residence: Downtons Morgan Vale
father : Thomas Newman (dead)

witnesses: George NEWMAN
**
and Mary Anns (POORE????) it's got a blob of Ink of the first letter and quite hard to read.

---

Betty NEWMAN's signature appears to be the same as when she witnessed Charles POORE's marriage (unless someone else wrote her name down each time?)
----

Unfortunately, Ancestry, doesn't have a search engine for witnesses, which is so useful.

e.g.

When Henry BEAUCHAMP Widower, occupation, Carpenter, of Downton (no father listed) - married Sarah COOPER aged 20 at Downton 25 December 1841 (father William COOPER, labourer) - the witnesses were George NEWMAN and Betty NEWMAN and the signatures are the same as Charles POOLE witnesses writing.  Henry signs himself, Henry BEACHEM (without the P at the end)

---

Then we have a Marriage a Downton - 11th January 1835

Thomas WEBB and Harriet PRATT
This time the witnesses are : Henry BEACHEM and the mark of Ann EARNEY

----

Marriage at Downton, July 29th 1838

John MATTHEWS  to
Anne ARNEY - Spinster of Downton, father Charles ARNEY, labourer.

Baptismat Downton, 14 May 1815, Anne ARNEY, father: Charles, mother: Mary Anne

----

---
**
Marriage at Downton: 3 January 1844

George NEWMAN - Batchelor, Blacksmith of Morgans Vale, father: Thomas NEWMAN - Farmer
Mary Ann POPE - Spinster, of Downton, father John POPE, Carpenter

witnesses: Henry POPE and Frances POPE .... The two signatures of George NEWMAN and Mary Ann POPE - are identical to the wedding witnesses above.

1851 Census, Wiltshire, Downton
Morgans Vale

NEWMAN

George - 39 Blacksmith - all born Downton, Wiltshire
Mary Ann - 34
Sarah - 6 (GRO Index, mother's maiden name: POPE)

Eliza BEAUMONT - witnesses : Charles & Mary Ann NEWMAN
Henry BEAUCHAMP second marriage 1841) (signed himself: BEACHEM - witnesses again Charles & Mary Ann NEWMAN)

----

EARNEY/ARNEY etc

1851 Census, Wiltshire
Downton

Morgans Vale

REEVES

William - 41 Carpenter - all born in Wiltshire, Downton
Betty - 42 (c1809)
George - 7
Frank - 5
Mark - 3
Ann - 5 months

----

Betty NEWMAN - baptised at Downton, 2 April 1809
parents: Thos. NEWMAN and Susanah

---

There are a couple of POORE/ NEWMAN marriages at Downton

the earliest one is

James POORE and Sarah NEWMAN - 5  January 1815

witnesses: Abraham NEWMAN and William POPE

Once again a lot of information to ponder over and thank you.
You pose an interesting observation as regards to Charles and Ann Every. I've always been puzzled as to why I haven't been able to discover Charles being born to William and Mary in 1812.
This could well be the reason.
You have set quite a deal of homework for me!!
Many thanks again for your interest.
Regards,
Don.
