Getting fed up
« on: Thursday 20 February 20 14:45 GMT (UK) »
I have all the details I need for the 1911 census from the 1911 English Census Summary Book entry on Ancestry. So there they are...in black and white...exactly as written d

William G Rowland HSN 158     George Rowland. HSN 238

Peabody Buildings Okd Pye Street
Civil Parish St John and St Margaret
Ecc Parish St Matthews Westminster
Reg District St George Hanover Square
Reg District number 5
Sub Reg District St Margaret and St John
Sub Reg District number 3
ED 17
Piece 16

So I put all that in in Ancestry to do a search of the actual census so I can see address, occupation, etc.....nothing...it cannot give me the census to look at, even though the information is exact. If I make it less exact it give me results for Rowlands in Liverpool, Surrey and all over the place!
So I went through the whole of the book for that record number and there is nothing at all for Peabody Buildings.
Any ideas?

I just searched for William G Rowland and Peabody Buildings and found him. If you were putting all those details in I think the problem may be that the Summary Book says ED 17 but the census forms say ED 19.

He's listed on census as William George Rowland, not William G.  He's at 14E Peabody Buildings  - George Rowland at 18H Peabody Buildings.

I searched just on names and district as St. George, Hanover Square.

It is often a good idea to search for a small amount of information rather than a lot. Quite often the way your input is interpreted can actually work against you. You might have to search through a couple of pages of hits, but it can be a lot easier in the long run.
