Albert Henry Cawthorn
« on: Friday 21 February 20 15:16 GMT (UK) »
I have a family story of the above named man, Albert Henry Cawthorn, going to Dunkirk from Hull to pick up soldiers. His nickname was Golly/Gollie or Goliath.

Can anyone help me verify this or prove it to be just a tale?

Thank you.

Have you tried a Google search, just to see if anything easily available?

I'm unsure what boat. He was born in 1911 and died in 1998, and he was mg great-grandfather.

Most of the ships came from the south coast.

Have you tried to find any boat museums associated with Hull that might give you some pointers?

Do not know what access to archives available whilst closed.

Does not help you, but fascinating papers discovered belonging to the poster's great-aunt who had retained lists of boats involved in evacuation as she worked for the Ministry of Transport.

The only way that you will find the answer is either by asking relatives or looking at Hull newspapers, Nicknames don't appear on official documents. You don't give enough information to provide a meaningful answer i'm afraid.
