Samuel Carter look-up - Stratton on the Fosse
« on: Saturday 22 February 20 21:10 GMT (UK) »
Greetings, searching for birth info on Samuel Carter, possibly born at Stratton on the Fosse ~1710, as well as any info on his siblings.  Samuel Carter married Mary Flower at nearby Chewton Mendip on 5 Feb 1732.

Samuel's possible father is a Samuel Carter, baptized at Stratton on the Fosse 24 Sept 1671. Samuel Carter the elder died at Stratton on the Fosse 11 Jan 1740/1.  I am missing Samuel the elder's wife's name.  Samuel the elder had a number of siblings also baptized at Stratton on the Fosse.

There are a number of records on Freereg at Stratton-on-the-Fosse, the two you mention plus another burial but no age.

Samuell CARTER   Baptism   24 Sep 1671   Somerset   Stratton-on-the-Fosse : St Vigor : Parish Register

Samuel CARTER   Burial   11 Jan 1740/1   Somerset   Stratton-on-the-Fosse : St Vigor

Samuel CARTER   Burial   30 Oct 1720   Somerset   Stratton-on-the-Fosse : St Vigor : Parish Register

The baptisms 1700 – 1720 name the fathers as Richard & John but no Samuel.

The only Samuel Carter Baptism I can find on Freereg or A……y is 18 Apr 1717 Midsomer Norton, Somerset. Father William.

On Freereg father Samuel, I wonder if William was the elder brother of your Samuel 1671?

The OPR on A.....y names the father as Samuel but I can see how it might be considered to be James on transcripts.

Thank you ColC for the info above.  My records also suggest William Carter, b at Stratton 1664, is the brother of Samuel Carter (1671-1741) - see below.  I am also searching for the wife of the latter Samuel, possibly married at Stratton on the Fosse ~1690-1710.

Siblings (all born at Stratton) of Samuel Carter (1671-1741) include: William (b 1664), Richard (b 1665/6), Alexander (b 1667), John (b 1674), and Sarah (b 1676/7).

Samuel Carter (1671-1741) is the son of Samuel Carter, b at Stratton 1642, buried at Stratton 1720.

ColC: I followed your Free Reg lead on Samuel Carter (son of Wm), b at Midsomer Norton 9 Apr 1717.  However, these same records also show Samuel Carter, son of Wm, buried at Midsomer Norton 4 May 1718.
