Looking for a Marriage, Victoria or Nanaimo, British Columbia
« on: Sunday 23 February 20 11:50 GMT (UK) »

Hi All,

I've had amazing help with this family on the Lancashire Board on here already. See:

https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=825833.0

Jane Butler was Born in Hulme, Manchester, Lancashire, England in 1840. Parents Patrick and Jane Butler, (Née Howard). Patrick and Jane were Born in Ireland, and Married in the Parish of Kilmoylan, County Galway on the 24th May 1829.

Jane Butler emigrated to Victoria, Canada in 1862. At some stage she Married John William Wignell, Born St Pancras, London England in 1841. Parents William John and Phoebe Wignell.

John William Wignell, Born 1841 was killed in a Mining Accident in (Approx) 1868 in Nanaimo.

I'm looking for a Marriage for Jane Butler and John William Wignell, and a Death Entry for John William Wignell. The couple had four daughters before John's death.

Any help welcomed.

Cheers, Romilly.

British Columbia became a province in 1871 and began civil registration in 1872. However, Vital Statistics Agency records also include some delayed registration of pre-1872 events, colonial period marriages, and overseas war casualties.

Wow!! Thank you so much Sandra!

Just Logged in, - and amazed to see that you've found so much.

Your help is greatly appreciated.

I have DNA Matches in Canada that have perplexed me no end, - I couldn't see where the Link was.

I also have DNA Matches to three people who are descendants of Patrick and Jane Butler, on my elusive Paternal side. That's why I've been looking at all of Patrick and Jane Butler's children, - to see if I could get any closer to my Paternal Grandfather...

Many Thanks, Romilly :)
