I've just acquired this.
Is it my imagination - is he very similar to the pony and trap man?

That does look very similar. (The new one looks to have been printed back to front, as the buttons are done up the wrong way.)
Researching among others:
Bartle, Bilton, Bingley, Campbell, Craven, Emmott, Harcourt, Hirst, Kellet(t), Kennedy,
Meaburn, Mennile/Meynell, Metcalf(e), Palliser, Robinson, Rutter, Shipley, Stow, Wilkinson

Looks extremely likely that he is the same of a twin brother .

I'll do an overlay.

Thank you Arthurk I should have said that I flipped the new one so they are facing the same way.

I don’t think pony and trap man is the same as older man.

Older man has a longer and larger nose, hooded eyes and I think his hair might be darker and a finer than pony trap man’s. ( though not much of pony trap man’s hair is visible)

Pony trap man is also quite handsome .... older man, um .... not so much.  ;)

I think it is the beards make them all look quite similar.  :)

I agree with Ruskie, not the same man, ears are different and the space between the tip of the nose and upper lip are different demonstrate by Gadget's overlay.

I had to enlarge the trap man so that the faces would more or less fit. I was struck by the ears being different. I think I used 37% opacity
