New to family history
« on: Monday 24 February 20 14:43 GMT (UK) »
I am trying locate my fathers half sister. I have managed to track down her birth and have a copy of the birth cert.
She was born Mary McCullen on 25th May 1923 at 12 Alba Gardens, Golders Green. Her mother (my fathers mother) has her address listed as Redhill House, Edgeware.
I know they returned back to Enniskillen as my father was born there in 1930.
The trail then goes cold as there is no trace of Mary (Molly as my dad called her)
On all other documents I have my paternal grandmother is known as McCallen.
I would love to know what became of Molly or of any descendants but have no idea how to find her.
Any help much appreciated.

Hi,

"Redhill House" was the old name for Edgware General Hospital.

Hi, (again)

It looks like Mary may have been illegitimate, as mother's maiden name is the same as registered surname.

Although THAT fact is not a guarantee of illegitimacy.

Ray

Please note that Rootschat has a policy of NOT naming living persons.
Mary would be approaching 100yrs . .. ..

Yes think she definitely was. She had the same mother as my dad but my dads dad was not hers.
We think she may have worked in London somewhere either as a nurse/midwife or nanny as my dad saw her there in the early 50's.
After that absolutely nothing.

Hi
Do you know what part of London that he saw her in (Just in case)?
Was she single?

Do you know if there were any other "siblings" ?
Coincidence? There is another McCullen mmn birth a little time later, same geography  . . . . .

You can search for more recent-ish deaths just using the date of birth, just in case a name looks promising, and maybe look for a possible marriage.

Are you saying that your father knew her as Mary/Molly McC*llen in Ireland, and then met her in London?

My dad always referred to her as Molly.
The last known sighting of her was when my dad met her we believe in Hyde Park. He was on leave from the Navy at that time. Not sure if merchant or Royal.
He always said he was 21 when he last saw her. He was born in 1930 so that would make it around 1951.
He never saw or communicated with her after that.
Have no idea if she went on to marry, emigrate or if she could still be alive and if not can't find any record of her death. I think the spelling of the surname is a problem as his mum was definitely McCallen but Mary's birth cert says McCullen.
I appreciate all the help,
Is there anyway of searching HMRC as it's the only other Avenue we can think of??
