Did you get to the bottom of your search for Samuel Carter please?
I'm looking for a Samuel Carter with a daughter Mary.
He was a Tailor, died before 9 June 1889.
She was Born circa 1868. She married and lived in Bristol for a while, also a Tailoress.
I have her spouse, children, etc from there on but hit hit a stop with her origins and all of his details.

Samuel is age 47, his wife Mary is 45 both born Tiverton, Devon.

They married in Cove Chapel, Tiverton  27 February 1843, Samuel was 20 occ Tailor and Mary was 19
No fathers names were given for either of them.  Witnesses were Ann McNibb & Elizabeth Acland

In 1841 Mary can be found in Tiverton with her mother Mary & siblings including an Elizabeth Acland who was probably her wedding witness.

There is also a baptism in Tiverton on 22 February 1824 for a Samuel Carter with parents Joseph & Ann - Josephs occupation is a Wool comber.  This may be your Samuel
