« on: Tuesday 25 February 20 12:44 GMT (UK) »
Hi

I am trying to trace a relative Born in 1841 called Joseph Gray, he lived it seems with his Grandparents, Head of the House being Henry Westerman.  Joseph appears on 1851 Census as a 10 year old boy and born in Woodhouse Carr, Leeds (its spelt Cary which I have never heard of).  I do have his marriage Certificate and he married Hannah Braham in 18th July 1867.  Joseph then appears as a visitor in 1861 with the grandparents  After that he is with his wife Hannah.  I cannot for the life of me find who is mother and father are.  As for Woodhouse Carr, the only Woodhouse is in Leeds but not called Woodhouse Carr.  Having siad that still cannot find his mother and father.  ANy ideas at all?

Welcome to rootschat

I see from Josephs marriage that he does not name a father.

Have you accounted for all of Henry & Mary's children.  It is possible that Joseph may be one of the son's children to an unmarried mother

Doesn't actually say Leeds - just Woodhouse Cary, Yorkshire. Have you found a baptism yet?

Woodhouse Carr comes under Leeds.
See: https://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/YKS/WRY/Leeds/more

"WOOD HOUSE CARR, (Great and Little) in the township and parish of Leeds, lower-division of Skyrack; 1 mile from Leeds."

There is no entry for Woodhouse Cary in the "Where Is It In Yorkshire" page on GenUKI:

Thank you for the welcome

I am currently checking out the son James Westerman who married Charlotte Gray.  But you would think he would be called Westerman?    James Westerman is proving equally elusive as I am working his age out via his age on the census

My other option is one of the daughters but they never married anyone called Gray.

I checked out GRO site and there is no birth certificate for him was hoping I would find MMN

Love the cat!

No baptism or birth certificate.  It's so difficult.

This may be coincidence - but a Thomas Westerman and a Susannah Gray are on the same page of a marriage register Q/E Dec 1841, Leeds Reg Dist.

Clearly I don't know if they married each other or a different partner on the same page. I was just wondering if Joseph might be Susannah's son, prior to her marriage -- but brought up by Thomas's parents. (If of course that is a marriage between the 2).
Places of interest;
Lancashire, West Yorkshire, Southern Ireland, Scotland.
