John, James & Ken Brydon born 1860s Prestonkirk
« on: Wednesday 26 February 20 11:16 GMT (UK) »
John and James were twins born 12 Jan 1867 to William Brydon (1830-1866) and Catherine Richardson (1841-1916).
John married Mary Paterson 27 Nov 1890 in Edinburgh and they had 2 children, Catherine b 21 Jun 1891 Dunbar and William Riddle b 30 Jan 1893 d 1904 Dunbar, I don't know if any more were born. Catherine lived with her grandmother, Catherine in 1901 & 1911 and married Thomas Matthews in 1924 I believe in Edinburgh.
I can find no records for John and Mary beyond 1891 census?
James b 12/1/1867 has no records that I can find beyond his birth? Similarly Ken is shown on the 1871 census as born 1866 but I can find no records after that?
There were 2 other brothers, William  Riddell 1863-1931 and David born 1865 according to 1871 census but can't find a birth record for him although he appears to have married Barbara Welsh Davidson 1888 in Edinburgh and d 3 Apr 1918 in Leith. There was a sister, Naomi Brydon 1861-1863.
Also can find no death record for Barbara?

Have you seen the original or just a transcription?  He is aged 4 in 1871 so would probably be the surviving twin John, not 'Ken'.

Thank you Dundee Debra for pointing those out-I hadn't seen the original 1871 census so you're probably right.

There is one death showing in 1895 for a 25yr old Mary Paterson/Brydon in St Ninians, Stirlingshire. As you know, you can't tell from the index which way round the surnames go.

Can't see John twin in 1901. There is one death showing in 1898 for a 31 yr old John Bryden as a possible for him.

You mention trying to find David's wife Barbara Davidson's death. What has
David's marital status in 1901?

Thomas Bell 58
Catherine Bell 58 (guessing Catherine remarried)
William Brydon 38
David Brydon 36
Catherine Brydon 9 grandchild
William Brydon 8 grandchild

Address: 9 Castle Street, Dunbar

MonicaL, your suspicion about Mary Paterson's death proved correct and on the certificate it records that she passed away in St Ninians but usually lived in Dunbar-seems a long way to St Ninians or was that where the nearest sanatorium was as she appeared to have TB.
I can't see the death record you mention for John Brydon?-He was Mary's death informant?
As for Barbara Welsh Davidson she appeared on the 1911 census aged 54 in Leith with David.
