Cleaton Family - Llangurig
« on: Wednesday 26 February 20 12:42 GMT (UK) »
!841 Census, Samuel Cleaton (40) and his wife Ann (40 née Mills) are living with their family in Llangurig.   The address is given as Hurbrysq which is quite obviously someone's interpretation of a Welsh name.   The couple probably married 11 May 1827 in Llangurig.   A number of their children were baptised in Llanidloes.
Any help on the origins of Samuel and Ann and the correct name of the property greatly appreciated.

Have you looked at the original as that is also what it looks like to me  :)

No I've no access to the original.   It seemed strange because there is no letter 'q' in the Welsh alphabet and the name seemed to have Welsh overtones.

Thank you Rosie that seems more realistic.   I don't have access to the 1851 census so would it be feasible to let me know who is still around at that time?

Thank you Annette, I don't know how I missed it.  It is an elusive part of my family.   My grandmother was Elizabeth Jane Jones, born 18 Mar 1877.   From her birth certificate her mother was Mair Clayton (1856), daughter of Edward Clayton, born about 1826 in Llanidloes.   It then gets confusing (almost as bad as my Trow of Berriew forbears).   It is possible that Samuel is Edward's father hence the interest.
