I think the most important thing is Gilberte's birth certificate. We know her birth date and place, just need to find the certificate!

Yes that certainly would help!!

I am still wondering about the Maria Rachel Anais Philippart, b, 1910 that you found. If it's the correct Rachel for the aunt my wife used to visit, would there be a marriage record prior 1945 (75yr rule) for her? we now her husband first name was "Arthur"

born 1 april 1910 more than 100 years ago , you can ask for her birth certificate.

When the decree is published ,if she married before 1945 you could ask for her marriage certificate ( but you still don't know where she married.)

If there is a marginal mention of her marriage on her birth certificate , and if the husband is Arthur , you have a great chance of having found your wife's aunt Rachel.

Marie Rachel Anaïs Legrand/Philippart's birth record can be viewed here, page 750 entry 834. You'll need to register to view it.

As she was born two months before her parents' wedding, there's a note in the margin with Désiré officially recognising her as his daughter.

As joger says, we're still waiting for the 75 year law for marriages to come into effect.

No child called Philippart in 1912 and no registers on line after that year.

I posted about Jeanne Madeleine in post #7.

I've done some preliminary research about Désiré Maurice Philippart b. 1887 in Thines and his wife Marie Louise Legrand b. 1885 in Ieper.
Her family originates from the West Flanders province, while Désiré's paternal ancestors are from the province of Luxmebourg. His maternal ancestors are from the Nivelles area of Brabant.
If they do indeed turn out to be the correct parents, I have lots more info to share with you.
