George Dowling

George DOWLING and family emigrated to America, possibly abt 1870 and although I have found newspaper articles on family members in the US newspapers, I've not found any details on their journey-date, port of entry, name of ship, etc etc.  I would appreciate any help given.  Thanks Roy

1910 census he says he emigrated 1869, he says the same thing in 1900 plus in the country 31 years and a citizen.
Citizenship papers will have a lot of information

He divorced his first wife Mary A Dowling nee Kane? 21 March 1896 according to his 2nd marriage certificate.
He was 76 and he married Mary A Lamb widow age 70 whose previous husband was Mark Lamb who died 1885. Her parents are Thomas and Jane English. Date was 25 April 1896 in Northumberland PA.
On 3 November 1900 he marries again Caroline Phillips a widow.

So the information on find a grave must refer to wife number 2 and 3

Dates vary on all the Dowlings - Charles gives 1865 on the 1900 census.    Wondering if some of them may have gone separately. Such a shame because that is the time frame where there is a lack of passenger list info.

If this is the obituary for the son George Dowling, it indicates he arrived in the USA as a married man - married for the first time in Wales.  So maybe it is possible the families could have arrived at different times.

both are listed as laborers, the ages match those of 1861 census but no other family mentioned.

Maybe that passenger list is the correct one, that's two of the names together.

I found a New York Passenger List with a Sarah Dowling - aged 24 years - spin - Liverpool to New York on the Idaho - arriving 11 October 1969

How much information you get on the naturalization records depends on the time frame.  The law changed in 1906, and records from then and later typically have a lot more detail than the earlier records.
