Learning about Genealogy
« on: Sunday 01 March 20 08:25 GMT (UK) »
Hello
My name is David and I am an employee at Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Burnaston,Derby
I am also a Learner Rep (ULR) at Toyota, part of a group involved in raising awareness about the value of learning and helping organise courses in the workplace.
We are continually looking for subjects that the work force might be interested in getting involved in, bringing in an expert for half a day or a day to teach or pass on their knowledge.
The subject of Genealogy has always been an interest of mine but have never known how to get started, and I know recently has become more popular with TV programmes dedicated to the subject. I feel that this might be something that colleagues here may also be interested in.
I have no idea where I might start looking for someone who could come in and run a course like this and I wondered if anyone had any ideas or may know of somebody in the Derby/Burton-on-trent area who may be able to help.

Welcome to rootschat, David.

There is a Derbyshire Family History Society (also a facebook page)

https://www.dfhs.org.uk/

which will have local people who you can contact.

The local Library is always a good place to make inquiries. Many of them have a Local Studies section.

Again, thanks for the response.
I’ve sent an email to the library too. I know they have talks on there. I’ll try popping in.
Many thanks

David

Hi David

Welcome to Rootschat - I teach family history as a Community lecturer through Rotherham College (part of the RNN group) - sadly you are a bit distant but you might find someone through a local college or through the WEA (Workers’ Educational Association). Best of luck with your initiative.

David
