Hi Karen

I've just looked at the Balmaclellan MIs in my booklets but no McMinns before 1855. The published booklets only go to 1855. I think they assumed that the death registrations would then take over.

Yes there are and appear in various parishes in the booklets. I have all the KKD booklets but I'd like to know more from Karen about her McMinns before I look elsewhere.

It could be that Karen's McMinns don't have stones, just burials. In which case it would be looking for lair books, kirk sessions minutes, etc.

George was married to Mary Shaw. He was born about 1781 in Kirkcudbrightshire . In 1841 he lived at Gowk Morn..they had 5 children that I know of.

If he died in Balmaclellan in 1856, do you have the death cert?

There were lots of Shaws in the area. When/where did Mary die?

Added - if you are trying to trace his parents, do you have the name of the children in birth order. They might well have use the naming conventions.

It looks as if she was still alive at his death. Have you found her on later censuses?

Which McMinns are you trying to find - his siblings  or who?
