Bunbury, Wellington, WA Marriages & deaths
« on: Sunday 01 March 20 19:22 GMT (UK) »
Hi there, I need some help please.
Evan Jarvis born England 1847 was a brickmaker. I have found a record which suggests he left Britain in Nov 1883 aged 36 & arrived in Australia in Jan 1884. His wife & family were still living in Wigan by the next census. I would like to find out what happened to him.
One record shows an Evan Jarvis (singleman) (age not known)  married Mary Roberts in Bunbury WA. His father shown as Evan Jarvis which ties in.
I found a death record for an Evan Jarvis in Bunbury 1924 but have no idea when this Evan was born. (And a  Mary Jarvis death record in 1949)

Any help is much appreciated
Thanks

Trove is a free resource where you can search newspaper records

His Obit here http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-page8869008 infers it might be the gentleman you are looking for as it states '' resident of that district for over thirty years '' ie moved there not born

His widow is listed as the chief mourner and no children are mentioned

I would suggest this is your man

Edit: Added: Looking on WA BDM - another free search site - it seems there were a number of Jarvis men in Bunbury at that time. Quite a few births from the time of marriage give quite a few different names of Jarvis men - but no Evan - which links to the obit of no children

A little family history is contained in the obituary of Frederick ROBERTS, Mary's father, who died in July 1913

There was a dispute over his will.

I believe the ship may have been the SS Orient or Port Jackson?
Thanks
