Jane Potter
« on: Sunday 01 March 20 23:41 GMT (UK) »
Hi I'm hoping someone here might be able to locate a possible christening for Jane Potter who married William Brinkwell in Coldwaltham in 1600. They married in July 1600 and the only children I have for them are as follows:

Richard Brinkwell b February 1604/05 Petworth
Elizabeth Brinkwell b February 1611/12 Petworth

William was born in Petworth in February 1568/69.

The only Jane I have found [so far] was christened in Rudgwick in 1586 [daughter of Richard].

This Jane would have only been about 14 when they married in July 1600 so seems unlikely, but she would have been about 18 when Richard was born in 1604/05.

Rudgwick is about 11 miles from Coldwaltham.

Does anyone have any ideas about this lady or can anyone suggest any other possible candidates for the Jane who married William Brinkwell?

Thanks in advance.

Matt

Two Janes can be found in Slinfold - but too early they were baptised  before 1560. There is one in Petworth though

Joane ( a common variant of Jane) baptised 29 March 1566 daughter of Robert ( it’s actually been transcribed as Robtj- I am assuming it is Robert)

Hi Claire

Well that one in Petworth definitely looks worth investigating so I will look into her tomorrow. I don't know how I missed her before lol! I am pretty sure you're right with the father's name which might be written as "Robt" or "Robrt" then badly transcribed as "Robtj" but I would definitely read it as Robert.

Thanks again. I'll be sure to take a look tomorrow.

Thanks omega. I think I have a record of him mentioned in a will.
