Hiya,
Footballing information:

Cornelius Holland (b. 1918, d. 1980) who played football for Grimsby before and during WW2?
Here is a short profile about the footballer;
HOLLAND, Connie
Playing position: Inside-left
Connie originally joined Grimsby Town (England) as a young professional in the 1938 close season from the Stafford district (probably English amateur football), despite being of Welsh birth. However he figured little for the reserves and briefly joined Swansea Town before the outbreak of war.
He returned to play for both of his former clubs during hostilities, figuring for Grimsby in away fixtures at Lincoln City (31 Aug 1940, drawn 2-2 in the opening fixture of the season) and at Doncaster Rovers (in a 0-6 defeat on 23 Nov 1940) and also played in the Grimsby League for works side Consolidated Fisheries – known as Consol during 1942/43.
During 1941/42 he scored in a sole war appearance for Swansea's first-team.

Cornelius had been with Folkestone and Grimsby Town before the outbreak of WW2. He joined United for season 1941-42 but he was not in the area long and left the Club when his army unit moved back to England. He was released in February 1942.
