Found a baptims of William Small 24/03/1839 showing birth 19/10/1834, parents Samuel a mason and Ellen

I have worked backwards from William Henry born 1867 Ashcombe Devon

All siblings born Kingsteighton and checked all shown as MMN Collins/Collings, unfortunately I can’t double check William as it is before 1837, I am at a loss as to why his father is shown as Thomas a labourer and not Samuel a mason, I am sure I am on the right lines,

Any help to convince me otherwise most welcome

William Small, Boarder, 26, Mason Journeyman, born Devonshire Kingsteignton

Have no more details.
Possibly is in Dawlish in 1851, age 19

I have  William Henry Small born 1867 St Thomas ref 5b 81, MMN  Mudge
so working back from this,  I find

Ashcombe 23/02/1858
William Small  of Ashcombe Devon a labourer father Thomas Small labourer
marrying
Sarah Ann Mudge also of Ashcombe father William Mudge
witnesses Mary Ann Williams and Thomas Small

I have never felt so confused about a family as I have the Small family

I have worked all afternoon on William Small born circa 1832 and Sarah Mudge born circa 1836, I am happy with what I have found coupled with what you have found for me, they are in Ashbourne on all census till their demise
