Thomas and Margaret Williams 1861 and before; Laugharne
« on: Monday 02 March 20 17:17 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to find early census records for Thomas Williams; 1861 and before.
He married Margaret Howell in Laugharne, Carmarthenshire on 22 Dec 1855. I cannot find a birth for him. The marriage certificate said his age was full and Margaret was also full. Born in 1834 as I have the baptism.

The 1871 census does not have Thomas, but his family are listed and I found records up to the 1911 census. At the time of the marriage, Thomas was living in Laugharne, but census records say he was born in Newcastle Emlyn; his father was John both Labourers. Her father was Jonah also a Labourer.

In 1861, daughter Esther would be 4 and they had a daughter called Margaret who died very young. There is another Margaret on the 1871 census. I have looked for Thomas and Margaret Williams/Howell on Family Search and nothing in 1851 or 1861. Help Please.

As for Margaret Howell, she was born at Little Mountain, Llansadurnen, a hamlet within Laugharne district. I may have the family in Quay Street, Saint Clears in 1841, but without Margaret, who would be 6/7 years old. My family reused names and some a very familiar, but there were other Howell families in the area, I assume somehow related. Ref: HO107 . Piece/Folio: 1382/9 . Page: 10

That explains so much. Is it the same for 1851 and 1841 records?

Thanks Milliepede and CaroleW
The link explains 1861, but I have not found some Carmarthenshire records in 1851. I was aware of the 1851 record, but could not find it on Family Search this evening, nor in my own records. But I do have them in 1841, without Jonah. HO107 . Piece/Folio 1382/4
Mary Howell . 13 . Carmarthenshire
David Howell . 11 . Carmarthenshire
John Howell . 8 . Carmarthenshire
Margret Howell . 7 . Carmarthenshire
Thomas Howell . 5 . Carmarthenshire
Elizabeth Thomas . 10 . Carmarthenshire
Mary John ..8
John Sare . 1
I have found two couples Jonah and Margaret Howell in Laugharne, one at Hill Mountain, Llansadwrnen another at the bottom of the hill in Brook and another couple in St Clears.
The baptism of Margaret was in Llansadwrnen, but they used Philadelphia Chapel in Laugharne for their children and where some gravestones remain.
