How do I find my half-brother with little known information
« on: Tuesday 03 March 20 09:39 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for my half-brother. The problems are many. I do know there is a half-brother but other than that I don't know much. My father (deceased) is Raymond I Miller. He was a sailor during WWII and had a child (a boy) by a woman in California. They were not married. When the war was over my father came home and never stayed in California with the mother and child. I believe it was because of things that he endured during the war. He enlisted when he was only 16 y.o. , only days after his birthday. He was stationed in the South Pacific and I know he witnessed some horrific things which affected him his entire life. This son would be 75-77 y.o. today. I want to find him before it is too late. If anyone can help me please do so. His first name may be Phillip. I don't know the mothers name or his, for sure.

Welcome to Rootschat  :)

This isn't a forum to trace living relatives but there are suggestions to do so in the Help pages-

Remember that your half-brother may not even know/have known about the circumstances of his birth/parentage. He may have been given up for adoption or raised by mother's husband or partner as their child. If he did know about your father then he or his children might or might not want to know more but there is a chance they've done DNA test(s) to trace family. Have you done a DNA test yet?
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Hello and welcome to Rootschat! I personally had very good success in finding my long lost half brothers as well as their descendants. One avenue of searching that may be very significant is your Father's military records. Knowing what ship(s) he was attached to could be a first step. Ship movements and where and when they were on shore for leave and other purposes could help in narrowing down your search, inasmuch as California is a very large area. Do you have his military records? Also, an obvious question...have you looked at California births in the appropriate time frame?   Perhaps your half-brother was registered with that forename of Philip as well as your Father's surname.  ???  I hope this helps and good luck with your search.  Sincerely, patrexjax
