Overseas Family
« on: Wednesday 04 March 20 15:33 GMT (UK) »
So as well as figuring out my tree my husband has been on at me to do his, so I'm trying to set aside a bit of time.. I did attempt his tree a few years ago but literally had to give up, as although my husband was born here both his parents are from overseas.. His dad was born in India, his mum in Pakistan.. There is also Greek, German, Russian and all sorts in the family. Very complicated. I've had anc and FindMyPast all access and have still found very limited information... I literally cannot even find a birth record for his dad.
Is there anywhere else I can look when it comes to overseas records? I'd love to unravel the mystery!

Certainly other countries can be more problematic!  (My OH was born in the Middle East - I've more or less given up finding anything beyond verbal family history of only a generation or so back  ;) )

familysearch.org has quite a few "overseas" records as a starting point, and there are quite a few resources to check out on the "Other Countries" board here on RootsChat:

Lots of helpful people there who can help with tracking info and translating. Why not put a specific post with names and dates, see what turns up !  :)

Is it a good idea to look for country-specific resources in a case like this btw?

Thank you for the replies everyone... I've actually made a little progress with the help of my mother in law.. She's previously been quite reserved about her background but I think the whole family tree thing is intriguing her and she's given me a huge folder full of old records which I didn't know she had! It's helped massively. Stuck on a few names which I will post on here later today to see if you guys can turn up anything!
