Puckeridge or Buckeridge
« on: Wednesday 04 March 20 22:24 GMT (UK) »
I'm hoping someone here is able to double check a name on the parish registers for Thatcham for me.

My ancestor Phillip Fullbrook married a woman named Elizabeth Puckeridge on 29 January 1642/43 in Thatcham. I have those details from FamilySearch but I am having problems tracking down any christenings for a possible candidate for Elizabeth.

The closest I have found is an Elizabeth Buckeridge christened in Burghfield in April 1623. Burghfield is about 9 miles from Thatcham.

Is anyone able to double check the parish register entry for the marriage online to see if the name might be Buckeridge instead of Puckeridge? I am wondering if it has been misread or mistranscribed.

Does anyone have any ideas or thoughts on this?

Thanks

Matt

Greetings Matt,
I have several early BUCKERIDGE families in the area of Pangbourne, Basildon and Ashampstead, Berks.  We might see if any of these overlap with yours.

Hi

Thanks for the reply. Currently I am unsure if Elizabeth's surname was PUCKERIDGE [as stated on a transcript of the marriage] or BUCKERIDGE as I have not been able to view the original register image. Obviously if it was faded then the "B" could end up looking like a "B".
