It certainly seems like the correct family - they were also on Florance Rd in the last a available census.

I can’t find much on Charles Snr. But he was a Cox when he married Clara too (1895) , I can’t find him before this

OK, I'm happy to leave it at that. I can do some more research myself, now you've cleverly helped me to see what the problem was :-)

I'm guessing that they had a rather lovely stone carved (it was quite ornate), but there was a fault, ouch, but it was much too expensive to have it re-done. Or they couldn't read, always possible. Maybe the stone-carver misread his instructions if the X in COX wasn't properly formed, when it was written.
