Help accessing a record on Fold3
« on: Friday 06 March 20 15:07 GMT (UK) »
I have found a military record on Ancestry regarding a member of my family which has a record of their disability, but when I attempted to access it it states I must have a premium subscription. I have an Ancestry Premium subscription, so do they mean I must have a premium subscription to Fold3 as well ?

Sadly yes.  Fold3 does require an additional sub.  Presumably it is a pension record?  Some records are available on other sites, worth cross checking.  Would you like to give name and number?

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

With deep sadness,

Thank you Max, his name is William Warlow Jones (but William is Wm on the record) Service No 278192, Sapper. Discharged 15th March 1919. Record Type Disability.

This is very curious. There's a William Warlow Jones 480 Royal Welch Fusiliers (discharged 3/5/16) and a William Warlow Jones 60684 South Lancs Regiment (discharged 17/8/18). Can't see any record for a William Warlow Jones 278192 other than that Fold 3 reference.

Thanks for your reply Shaun. This search has been a bit of a nightmare as the first William Warlow Jones I mentioned was my Grandfather & the one you found who was discharged 17/8/18 reg No. 60684 was my Great Grandfather. Both of them I was told served in the Royal Welsh Fusiliers, so not sure how the South Lancashire Reg. features in this. The other one you found could have been Great Grandfather William as I believe he served twice, once when he was in his 20's & the second time in his 50's.

60684 South Lancs Regiment was William "Wardlow" Jones born Conway circa 1865 https://www.ancestry.co.uk/interactive/1114/miuk1914a_085107-00571

Yes that's him Shaun, it is a miss spelling of his middle name.

Had to go and cut the grass while the sun was shining (remember the "sun"?)

Agree with ShaunJ, apart from the Fold 3 reference, no sign of 278192 in the Royal Engineers.  The South Lancs comes into the story because 60684 was originally Royal Welsh Fusiliers until Dec 1916 when he was transferred to the S Lancs and then discharged unfit in Aug 1918.

There may be scope for a free trial of Fold3 then cancel it.

The pension card will be accessible to members of the Western Front Association.  You could check the relative cost of Fold3 and the WFA.

Thanks again Max, we too had a lovely afternoon of sunshine & hoping for more in the days to come, but not holding my breath. Thanks also for the explanation regarding the South Lancs. I know my Great Grandfather had a terrible accident in the quarry & almost lost his arm, so I'm surprised he was able to serve at all.
Will look into the Fold3 free search but really annoyed I have paid the Ancestry Subscription only to have to pay again to view one record.
