Nankivel
« on: Thursday 12 March 20 11:20 GMT (UK) »
Hi

I believe that John Nankivel married Mary Bowden they went on to have the following children:-
Nancy 16/4/1826 born Mary Tavy Devon christened  Wesleyan Tavistock
Sampson 22/8/1823
Grace 26/5/1829
Thomas 27/2/1832

I cannot find date or place of marriage for John and Mary, this would help finding their age also.

Any help gratefully received

John Nankivell 80 (bc.1784) buried 10/4/1834 Mary Tavy.

Mary Nankivel 64 (bc.1789) buried 29/9/1853 Wesleyan Methodist, Horrabridge.

In 1851 Mary and youngest son Thomas are living with a married daughter Jane Woodman - this showed that Jane was born ca.1821 Oreston, Devon.

So, knowing there was a daughter Jane looked for her baptism and found:

Jane Nankivel bp.1/4/1821 Plymstock, dau. of John (Quarryman) and Mary of Oreston.

Then found other baptisms at Plymstock, parents same couple:

Betsy Bennetts bp.19/6/1814
Luke Bennetts  bp.   ditto
James bp.26/11/1815
Thomas bp.19/10/1817 (assuming this one must have died)
Richard bp.10/1/1819

1851 Census shows Mary was bc.1789 Ashburton, Devon and then found a baptism there:

Mary Ann bp.23/5/1810 Ashburton, dau. of John and Mary.

The baptism of youngest Thomas in 1832 shows mother Mary was the daughter of William and Mary Bowdon.

Mary Bowdon bp.22/5/1791 Ashburton, dau. of William and Mary.

So, the marriage found by millipede is possibly correct although seems a few years too early going by the parents ages.

Certainly they were baptising children from 1810 to 1832 - at Ashburton 1810 (Mary's birthplace), then living at Oreston 1814 until 1821 when children baptised Plymstock, and Mary Tavy from 1823 until John's burial in 1834.

In 1841 Mary and children in Mary Tavy (transcribed as Nankwill on FindMyPast).  In 1851 Mary and Thomas with her married daughter Jane Woodman in Cornwall.

In order to make sure it’s the right family the daughter Nancy married James Tredinick Gerry(Gerrey) in March 1846

marriage register for that may not be online. But it was 28 Feb 1846 in Buckland Monachorum.

Apologies that I misread the birthplace for Jane in 1851.
