If you have a FindMyPast subscription at moment, there seems to be a few mentions of J Slatter and Mrs Slatter, 2 Bishop Street , in Bristol newspapers of 1890s to 1900. Seems to have been a Draper's business if I am reading the free search results correctly. Mostly adverts, but one is a copy letter that was received from the front, (2nd Boer War), from son Bert Slatter in 1900 (March 9, 1900 - Western Daily Press - Bristol).

That fits too! When Joseph died Apr 15, 1922, Mary was still alive. His will was probated June 13, 1922 and I have ordered the will for one pound fifty.

Thanks for the info on the children. I thought I had found Albert's emigration to Manitoba in 1907 but not positive now. There is more than one Albert E. Slatter. Perhaps Joseph's will  will clarify.

Regarding the marriage of Mary and Joseph, I believe Joseph's parents were James Slatter and Mary Ann Millard. Guess that's where he got his middle name.

One Albert E Slatter is born 27 Sep 1878 death 5 Sep 1945 Mount Hope Cemetery San Diego

Baptism for your Albert 8 Dec 1878 so possible.  Exact birth date not on the baptism unfortunately.
