Andrew Kitchen 1824-.
« on: Saturday 14 March 20 07:15 GMT (UK) »

I have finally got a potential lead for an Andrew Kitchen 1824-:

a tree at ancestry says he died 2 December 1893, York, Ontario, Canada. no sources given.
https://www.ancestry.com/family-tree/person/tree/15030749/person/390078048813/facts

Hopefully there aren't too many York cemeteries open at this date, could someone please confirm which ones were in existence at this time please.
Also an obituary in the local press if it is available.

Although he is not mentioned to date, there are 30 Kitchen entries for the Prospect Cemetery City of Toronto, York County, Ontario.
Might be best to rule him out from this cemetery first.

So near and yet so far on this one.

After two years it was great to learn that Andrew Kitchen might have passed away back in Ontario, Canada
Better still to narrow it down York, Ontario.

Now I have sent a fax to the Prospect Cemetery City of Toronto, York County, Ontario, to see if they can confirm that he is buried there - no response.

I am writing this from the other side of the Phuket, Thailand. And I am beginning to think just how to get over this proverbial brick wall.

If someone could please go the extra mile on this, I would be most grateful.

Be patient take a break.
Ontario is shut down only those deemed essential are working. Could be weeks or months before you get a response.

Yes, as DnM pointed out you are going to need to be patient at this time.

I would like to add, however, that if Andrew died in Ontario there should be a death record on line. I have tried all spelling variations I could think of and haven't found a record of his death. These are available through Ancest...y. They would also be available through familysearch (free) if you don't have the appropriate Ancest...y sub.

Interesting comments from you and DonM.
However in these times of anxiety I think they have been somewhat misconstrued.

Thank you for your own attempts in trying to look him up - much appreciated.
The fact that he died in Ontario, having lived so long in the States, is as you have pointed out is now questionable.
Through your research it points to the fact that he might not have.

My up date was more along the lines if there were any details on line, regarding what other cemeteries in York that were open in 1893?

The fact that there is a precise date adds to this credibility that he still might be found in York, Ontario.

Here is (hopefully) a list of cemeteries in York region. I don't have dates for them but a google search of each individual one should hopefully give you a history and a contact listing.

http://www.interment.net/can/on/york/cityoftoronto.htm

Alternatively, when libraries are open again you could email the Toronto Library at the link to " ask a librarian". I do see that the website has been altered due to closure at the moment, however, and I don't see that particular way to contact the library there at the moment.

https://www.torontopubliclibrary.ca

Toronto City Directories are also digitized. I would expect you should be able to find the cemeteries under the 1893 listing.
