Marriage of John Hill in 1780's at St James the Less, Westminster
« on: Saturday 14 March 20 14:51 GMT (UK) »
Does anyone know if the marriages records for St James the Less in Westminster are available anywhere for the 1780's.  I have been told that John Hill married Mary there but want to confirm her surname.  Any help would be appreciated.

St James the Less, Westminster, didn’t exist in the 1780s. It was created in 1862 out of the parish of St John the Evangelist, Westminster.

There are two possible marriages in the 1780s for a John Hill at St James, Piccadilly – Mary Bolton in 1783, and Mary Bond in 1786. Index and images on FindMyPast.

Bookbox you are wonderful!  Mary Bond is the one.  Thank you so much :)

Westminster marriage registers at this date don't normally show marital status. But this 1786 marriage to Mary Bond was by licence, and the marriage bond (on Ancestry) shows that Mary was a widow. John Hill was a bachelor, and a gentleman of St James Street.

Thank you again!  I have both records now.  I had seen a marriage between John Hill and Mary Kirby on trees on Ancestry but wanted to confirm how this came about before accepting the information.  Mary Kirby married cheesemonger Stubbs Bond in 1778 at St James', Westminster.  He died in April 1783 and Mary remarried again to John Hill.  Those treeholders were correct but no sources!
Thank you for all your help.
