Edward Midworth Hughes
« on: Sunday 15 March 20 20:34 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for any information on Edward Midworth Hughes, born Sept 3rd 1887, to John Hughes (1829-1908) and Sophia Midworth (1847-1926). He died in 1960 in Kenya. Edward was my great grandfather. He had a brother, Alfred Ernest Hughes, born in 1888. They were both born in Newark Nottinghamshire, England. I am looking for anything on Edward, Alfred, and their parents John and Sophia. Thanks!

I've found a newspaper report which probably refers to William (there's quite a lot actually but this one gives interesting personal info). Titled, "An artist in metals". it sings the praises of  William's artistry. At the time of the writing of the article, William was "perfectly blind" and in "secluded retirement" in North Muskham. It says that he was born in 1817 at Wellington House, Nothgate Newark, his father being at the time the proprietor of Wellington Foundry, and gives details of his schooling.

reference Nottinghamshire Guardian 08 July 1899  page 7.

So this baptism at NEWARK St Mary Magdalene would fit:
1817 09 19   William   father Joseph MIDWORTH     mother Mary      Father's occupation Ironfounder   abode Newark

and these burials, all at St Wilfrid, South Muskham:
1882 02 17   Richard Foster   MIDWORTH   age 26   abode Newark
1883 04 06   Alice   MIDWORTH   age 21   abode Newark
1885 10 21   Sophia   MIDWORTH   age 68   abode Newark
1899 07 25   William   MIDWORTH   age 81   abode North Muskham
