St Nicholas, Wickham, Hampshire - ANDREWS
« on: Monday 16 March 20 15:07 GMT (UK) »
Hello!

I've been searching high and low for the digitised images of the register of baptisms for St Nicholas, Wickham in the range 1815-1830. My first question is: have I overlooked them? It looks like they have been digitised but perhaps they're only available from an LDS library or HCC. I'd like to see the images for the following baptisms because I'm specifically interested in the father's occupation.

Baptisms of the children of John and Margaret Andrews:

1) John James Andrews baptised 2nd July 1815 at Wickham, Hampshire
2) Margaret Andrews baptised 11th August 1816 at Wickham, Hampshire
3) Sarah Andrews baptised 1st May 1818 at Wickham, Hampshire
4) William Andrews baptised 25th January 1820 at Wickham, Hampshire
5) Frances Ellen Andrews baptised 23rd September 1829 at Titchfield, Hampshire
6) Frances Ellen Andrews baptised 19th December 1830 at Titchfield, Hampshire

I'd be more than happy to pay for someone to check the records but I also thought that someone might be able to tell me if they are available online somewhere.

Many thanks!

Phil

On the 1841 census he is listed as a Brewer.

Thanks for the comment. Yes, he definitely was a publican of the Rising Sun in Fareham (and a brewer) in his later years. He may well have been a brewer earlier in his career too but that's what I'm trying to pin down ideally. Thanks, Phil

Ancestry transcription has William 1820 and Sarah 1818 baptized at Whitchurch not Wickham

Find my past has both Whitchurch and Wickham parish registers according to Dusty Docs.
I don't have a subscription at present, sorry.

If your John Andrews is the one at Fareham 1841 then are there two families with parents John and Margaret Andrews

Fareham baptism
John James Andrews 6 March 1815 parents John Andrews and Margaret. transcript only.

Hello, I have subs to Ancestry and Findmypast. The Hampshire parish records in Findmypast list Wickham rather than Whitchurch as the place of baptism for William and Sarah Andrews. I'm not sure why Ancestry has them recorded for Whitchurch as well. It's one of the issues I'm trying to resolve by locating the digitised images as opposed to transcriptions.

Re John James Andrews, yes there are two possible baptisms:

John James Andrews baptised 02 Jul 1815 at Wickham, son of John and Margaret
John James Andrews baptised 06 Mar 1815 at Fareham, son of John and Margaret

I have the image of the Fareham baptism and that records John's occupation as 'Servant'. Another reason why I'm keen to see the original of the Wickham baptisms.
