.....and who could forget the truly awful Whitbread Gauntlet?

Roger

I have to admit I was an Adnams gal, having been born in Suffolk and with links to the Southwold area.  And then I grew up and discovered red wine... ;D

Vesta Curry! that brings back memories.  It seemed quite exotic back then when foods from around the world were not readily available, at least not in our house. I don't think I could eat it now.  I will plump for KG's Shepherd's Pie instead  ;D

AAAw Roobarb!! I am SO disappointed that your picture is not of you.

All this time I have thought it was - presumably you are not actually as cute looking as you are pretending to be.

I'm definitely cute looking  ;) :D  Although I must admit I don't look like a green dog. Having said that, I might the morning after attending one of these fabled Rootschatter parties.  ;D ;D

A friend once held a "Wines of the World" party. After much diligent searching I opted for taking a bottle of Chateau Musar from the Beqaa Valley,Lebanon.I kept it to myself as soon as I had presented it.Far too nice to share.

Thanks Carol - been such a stressful time, and more to come, so I am so grateful for the kindness and friendship we receive on here.  This has certainly taught me how things can go from fine to 'at death's door ' within a few hours.

Roger's post reminds me of a 1970s 'Bad Taste' party I went to.  Not content to dress in bad taste people also brought the most horrendous selection of 1970s booze of various primary colours.  I doubt that Chateau Musar would have found a place there that night; however one of my business associates at the time was a wine merchant who had the most amazing cellar.  Imagine going down there and holding bottles of wine from the time of Napoleon.  It was like going back in history, more akin to  archeaology than dipsomania.   ;D
