Zoo animals 'under threat' from panic buying
« on: Friday 20 March 20 18:32 GMT (UK) »
Animals are being put at risk because panic buying and supermarket purchase limits is making it difficult to feed them, a zoo owner has warned.
Chris Moiser, who runs Tropiquaria Zoo in Somerset, said his staff had been "scouring the shops for food".
He said if food becomes "unaffordable" many zoos will have to close and he will have to "consider euthanasia of some, if not all" of his zoo's animals.
Mr Moiser urged people to donate spare fruit and vegetables to local zoos

I'd guess that many pet owners are panic buying for their pets as well, in case our movements are restricted.

I am actually quite surprised they rely on supermarkets to source their supplies.  It just shows how reliant we have all become on them.

I think that some supermarkets donate (?) left-over fresh fruit 'n veg past their sell-by date, to a  nearby zoo - at least that's the impression I've gained from watching "Monkey World"!  :D

There has already been a run on our local garden centre. Low on seeds and potting compost and cleaned out of bedding plants.
