British Guiana
« on: Saturday 21 March 20 17:06 GMT (UK) »
My 1st cousin 5 times removed Henry Watson was born 1818 Whitehills, Banffshire, Scotland and died 1881 in London, in the Euston Hotel. He was Administor General of British Guiana. What was an Administor General? Do you know where I could get any further info about it?

Many thanks

Ryan

Below is a very basic explanation of the job

Usually the office of administrator is a temporary appointment, for periods during which the governor is incapacitated, outside the territory, or otherwise unable to perform his or her duties. The process for selecting administrators varies from country to country.
Ashford: Somerset, London
England: Devon, London, New Zealand
Holdway: Wiltshire
Hooper: Bristol, Somerset
Knowling: Devon, London
Southcott: Devon, China
Strong: Wiltshire
Watson: Cambridgeshire
White: Bristol

Ryan,

You may already have this depth of information but, just in case you have not......

If you go into the Welsh Newspapers Online website and search for "Henry-Watson" [exactly as is] and then choose the 'year' 1881 and the category 'news' you should be rewarded with 8 results. Scroll down to the 5th one headed 'Narberth', select that one and navigate down to that heading and immediately below you will come to the heading of 'Milford Haven' and there you will find a delightful article headed: "Death of a Colonial Official".
