Phillips et al
« on: Monday 23 March 20 03:05 GMT (UK) »
Looking for any info re the following.

Lucy Drinkwater m. Alfred Lowry Hemming
Event Place:   West Ham, Essex, England
Registration District:   West Ham
County:   Essex
Registration Year:   1924
Registration Quarter:   Jul-Aug-Sep
Page:   758

George Phillips father of George Phillips who m. Mary Tofts Langley

Mary Simmons

Baptism
15 Jul 1804 James son of George & Mary (Simmons) Phillips

There is no marriage in the PRs for a Phillips/Peacock in 1825, there is this one..

St John the evangelist, Langley
2 March 1825
Thomas Phillips & Lydia Monk both single and of parish.

I've had a look through the Stanstead PRs and there is an Elizabeth Peacock baptised in 1803, but it is definitely not Peacock on the marriage, so perhaps someone has added Peacock because it ties in with the age given on the census (48). On family trees that I have looked at with a Phillips/Peacock marriage, they are saying that it took place in Langley with GUESS? wrote beneath so it shows that it hasn't been researched properly.

Thanks very much for that. I cannot find Eliza Bonneton perhaps it might be Bonython. Is it possible she was a Peacock & m & Bonneton.

Any help on this convoluted family would be fantastic.

Regards,

Gary
Australia.

You have put:
'Lucy Drinkwater m. Alfred Lowry Hemming
Event Place:   West Ham, Essex, England
Registration District:   West Ham  County:   Essex
Registration Year:   1924  Registration Quarter:   Jul-Aug-Sep   Page:   758'

How do these people fit into your family, and what do you already know about them - parents or children?

Where does the surname 'Peacock' come from - where did you find it in an ancestor's family?

You have put
'There is no marriage in the PRs for a Phillips/Peacock in 1825, there is this one..
St John the evangelist, Langley
2 March 1825
Thomas Phillips & Lydia Monk both single and of parish.'

No, that is a Phillips/Monk marriage, both single, so she has not been married before.

' I cannot find Eliza Bonneton perhaps it might be Bonython. Is it possible she was a Peacock & m & Bonneton.'

Where is she meant to have been born, who does she marry, what children does she have?

Thank-you

According to Ancestry Andrews index cards, Alfred Lowry Hemming died in Ilford in December 1953, late of 34 Rosher Road, West Ham, so this death, without his middle name:
Deaths December quarter 1953
Alfred Hemming age 70 (born about 1883) in  Ilford

That would make him 41 for the marriage quoted, so could have married before, so need marriage certificate for his status and father's name - or do you know them?

As there are several births for Alfred Hemming (no L) around 1883, though only one in the London area, you need the marriage certificate.

From ancestry
George Phillips widower married Mary Toofs spinster on 6 February 1772 at Langley St John the Evangelist Essex. Witness Edward Newton and Richard Eve.

Is this the one you are referring to?
-----------------------------------
George Phillips married Mary Simmons 3 March 1801 same church witness was Bailey Simmons all made their mark plus John Mosbey who signs, he signs several others on the page so probably the parish clerk.
Both of the parish and single

ADDED
Mary (nee Simmons) Phillips was buried 20 April 1820 at Langley age 41

George then married 2nd Kezia Prentice also a widow  19 December 1823
You can see them on the 1841 census for Langley.
George Phillips age 60
Kezia age 60
Mary Prentice age 30 possible daughter of her first marriage.

Possible burial for George 3 January 1848 age 74 in register

Hi.

Thanks very much for that.

Re Lucy & Alfred I cannot find any children. He was born in Melbourne & was a Purser on a ship.

The Phillips family is a mess. Do you have George's 1st wife & if there where any children or where he was born.

The marriage of Thomas Phillips to Peacock has no logic. It appears he m. Lydia Monk.

James Philipps & Eliza Bonneton with consent of parents were married by banns on 9 Feb 1824. No record can be found re her birth.
St Mary the virgin and St John the evangelist, Stansted Mountfitchet

No parents for Mary Simmons.

Cheers,

Gary.
