William tudor married sarah butler in 1857 in hucknall torkard i think, he is a distant relative, but his birth name was maybe toader. Could he have just decided to change it?

Welcome to Rootschat

According to the 1861 entry he is William Tudor b 1824 Hucknall Torkard

Does his birthyear & birthplace fit with what you know about your William Toader?

What document have you seen with surname Toader as it could be a mistranscription

William Toader baptised Hucknall Torkard 14 April 1822 mother Hannah Toader single woman

William Tudor married Sarah Butler 26 July 1857 in Basford.

He may have deliberately changed his name or it could have been misheard  and therefore misspelt. Not everyone was literate so they may not have known either how to spell their name or if what had been written down was incorrect. Local accents could also have played a part.

Just found a baptismal entry 14.4.1822 - mother Hannah Toader so he was illegitimate.

There is a tree on Ancestry showing both surnames and showing his father as William Shooter.  His wife is shown as Sarah Davis so was he a widower when he married Sarah Butler

Wow, what an amazing lot of responses and so fast! I am grateful.
Yes william shooter is involved i think but do you think then that william tudor really is a Toader not a Tudor and it was just mis-written?
His daughter, Elizabeth Tudor is in my maternal line, but why persist with the name Tudor, unless they thought it sounded better than Toader.
Unless his mothers name should really have been Tudor not Toader. Its very confusing!
