Following up on the information found by Sandra..

1901 census in Lanark has Mary Paul, sister in law, staying with William and Agnes...

Marriage for William McKenzie Robertson and Agnes Paul in Lanark on 29 Oct 1897 - record on FamilySearch.  William is listed as a farmer. 

Birth of son Arthur Cranston Robertson b 18 January 1901 in Carleton, Ontario - also on FamilySearch

Findagrave shows William McKenzie Robertson buried at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Haileybury/Timiskaming in 1948.  Wife Agnes buried there in 1941.

This might be William's obit...died in New Liskeard Hospital.  Resident of Elk Lake, had lived in Mattheson.  Died Dec 31 1947.  Living with his daughter Mrs George Little.

My apologies as I'm not great with geography, but is Lanark part of Ontario?

There is a Lanark which is part of Glasgow, Scotland which is why I am confused :(

Thank you, everybody, for all your help. I cannot believe the information you have found, it's incredible when historians have been looking for this information for a very long time.

I know need to find his record of birth.

I was thinking, just to prove that he did have a connection with football/soccer in Canada. Would it be worthwhile trying to find a living ancestor who may be able to confirm this?
