Again thank you all, you have done some wonderful work overnight, I am very grateful for everyone's input and I think everything is coming together now. The  I have ordered some death certs to follow the threads and will post the outcome of these once they arrive. I am sure there must be other O'Brien's out there who may be interested or who I can contact.  The City of Sydney Archives is a new site for me and very interesting.

I had a closer look - Correction to the 1838 shipping record. The ship was called "Strathisla".
The O'briens are on a list : "Emigrants forwarded by the Government from Hobart Town".
They may have been in Tasmania for a little while before that. I will look some more.
I wonder if one of the boys was born in Hobart?

Blacksmithy - If you send me a PM with your email I can send you the shipping record and Cornelius's marriage record.

Yes I have found 1833 arrival in Tasmania for Shoemaker Joseph O'brien (29), wife (27), 2 sons Cornelius (5) and Edward (1). The ship was "Strathsfielday" - arrived July 1st 1833.
So looks like the other boys were born in Tasmania.

I have not been able to find birth / baptism records for William or John in Tasmania between 1833 and 1838.
Someone else have any luck?

This looks like the baptism for John.  As Roman Catholics the entry is in Latin

https://libraries.tas.gov.au/family-history/Pages/default.aspx
Niov 3, 1834 at Roman Catholic church, Hobart
Baptizatus est Joannes, filies Josephi O'Brien et Brigidae Houghlahan. Sposoribus: Jacobo Burnett et Maria Whelan
"Sponsors" - godparents.
I can't see William - might have missed him somehow.

Oh that's good Judith. I didn't think about the latin.
Probability is that William will be after 1834 then.
I'll look again.

Added: interesting that Bridget is Houghlahan. I wondered about that name, rather then Coolahan as on son's marriage cert.

So often names were spelt as they sounded and with various accents................

I don't think the first letter of Bridget's surname on the marriage cert of her son even looks like a C to be honest.

But it does not quite look like H either !

Good finding Judith about the baptism.
