I think I've found him again aboard the ship America, joining in Feb 1879 from Liverpool, but this time he appears to have left the ship in Melbourne on 22 May 1879.

I wonder if he stayed there.

I was wondering the same - I've found a death for a Magnus Nesbitt (sic) in 1880 in Queensland, but there's no indication of age.

There are a couple of trees on Ancestry suggesting that Magnus Nesbit drowned in Lerwick harbour around 1875, but there's no death record on SP to back that up. I've tried to track back to the source tree to see if there's any more information about where that came from, but no luck so far.

Hi,

The attached might be of interest as it mentions Magnus Nesbit https://www.bayanne.info/Shetland/getperson.php?personID=I3315&tree=ID1 regarding Shetland Genealogy.

I did find that earlier this evening, I found it very useful.

Thank you anyway.

The info from bayanne is slightly wrong regarding the death of Christina Mary Nisbet and I have sent Tony who runs the site a copy of the death registration. Tomorrow I will send him one for Andrina Ursula Nisbet who died in 1942.

Ruth as Tony has no death dates for Magnus and Christina it's  more than likely they moved away from the Shetlands.

I haven't found a death date for either on Free BMD so maybe the Australian one you found for Magnus is the right one.

Their daughter Jessie Blance Nisbet married on 1 Jun 1892 in Edinburgh, the marriage registrations says both Magnus and Christina were deceased.
