Thank so much for all information ,
Jacob couldn’t have married as was already married in England leaving wife & 7 children .

The prison records states he was born in USA.

Do you have a census record relating to the wife in England?

There are some on-line trees which give Arthur's father as the Jacob HUNN who died in Victoria in 1918.

The trees suggest that he is the same Jacob HUNN who came from Acle, Norfolk, and was married to Jane DRAKE.

However I can see no actual evidence for the connection.

Thank you Judith . All the reply’s have food for thought for finding Jacobs life in Australia & never to return to his children or that any of them wanted to follow him .
Many thanks Judith & Sue & Jamjar

Some inconsistencies - hardly surprising if this is one man who seemed to keep his life in separate parts.

Summing up, these criminal reports would seem to be the same man, albeit with different place of birth.

Police Gazette New South Wales   6 Oct 1869 (quoted by Wivenhoe)
Prisoners Discharged Free
HUNN Jacob ....stealing....12 months hard labour, tried 30 Sep 1868 Bathurst, discharged by 6 Oct 1869
native place London.....sawyer.....born 1839
"Champion of the Seas"  1861

Champion of the Seas arrived Melbourne, July 1861 with over 300 unassisted immigrants.  I couldn't see his name on the passenger list.

from New South Wales, Australia, Criminal Court Records, Court of Criminal Jurisdiction Returns of Prisoners in Gaol, found by Sue
Bathurst Gaol, 31 December 1868, Jacob HUNN,
born United States, sawyer, can read and write, stout build in good health.

The Jacob HUNN who died in Victoria 1918 had a sister Harriet WARD who lived in the same area.  Esmae, you said there was a nephew surname WARD - do you have any further information? The man who died in Victoria had nephews with surname WARD.

Thanks Judith , yes Jacobs sisters both married Ward brothers . His nephew wrote a piece upon his death saying more or less what a good man he was . I have all information on family , but Jacob wasn’t single or a gentleman .
I have information on all family apart from Arthur wether he was Jacobs & Mary Stableton .
Son & Jacob returning from NSW to his Ward Family . You realy have helped . Thank you .

You say you doubt his WARD relatives knew his background.

Was one of them the informant on his Victorian Death Certificate?

Was there any indication of how long he had been in any of the states in Victoria on the certificate?
