Hi, I am a descendant of John HOPGOOD born 1764 and Priscilla Elizabeth Sharp 1766-1840 from Boughton Monchelsea, married 2nd Feb 1784 in Maidstone, Kent. Their children were..John, Priscilla, Thomas, Priscilla, Philadelphia Simmons, Robert, Samuel, Mary Annore, Boyce Simmons, Elizabeth Etherington, Sarah Etherinton, and Caroline. I am from Samuels line. I am trying to find the Father John's ancestory but have no luck so far, Any help would be very appreciated!! Cheers!!

Where did you find that John was born in 1764 - is it from 1841 census or a later one?

Is this his death?
John Hopgood died age 78 Buried on 9th May 1842 at Strood, Kent

If so, the 1841 census records him as not born locally.

I note one tree on A…..y has this as his birth but I can find no record on line.

2/02/1764 Boughton Monchelsea Kent.

If the previous post is correct the following might be worth a look on family search. Its the only one that year but there are others.

I can find two baptisms for a John Hopgood on FindMyPast but whether either are your John.......

Baptised 26 October 1765 at Welford, Berkshire parents Thomas and Lydia

Baptised 17 April 1767 at Devizes, Wiltshire parents John and Betty

Of the two Berkshire is nearer to Kent than Wiltshire, but your John could have been born somewhere else and the baptism is not available online.

I have assumed that the age at death is not necessarily accurate.
This is nearer than Berkshire, but as had been stated, his baptism could be anywhere, or in Kent but not on-line
It would need to be a late baptism as he would only be 15 at marriage, otherwise, from free reg:
Baptism date : 22nd October 1769 of John, Father William and Mother Judith Hopgood
at All Saints, Banstead, Surrey

No, he appears to be in Epsom workhouse in 1851

Sadly no DOB on the OPR on A......y for the 1769 Baptism.

Burial Epsom, noted he was from Banstead, there is a GRO index.
