William Davies, Golden Hill Cottage, Saint Mary
« on: Sunday 29 March 20 05:58 BST (UK) »
Hello, I am very much a beginner in this family tree business.  I am tracing my ancestors on my mothers side.
I have a birth certificate for a James Davies born to William & Martha Davies on 1/10/1850 at Golden Hill Cottage, Saint Mary.  I am trying to find out information on William & Martha, I can't seem to find them in census.  I am also curious about the Golden Hill Cottage area.

Thank you for you help.

Thank you.

The certificate I have mentions William is a labourer and dated October 1850. So is the James 6 months old not 6 years old??

Have you come across the GRO Birth (and Death) Index?  https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/menu.asp   You have to register but it is free to search and the birth index lists the mothers maiden name

I think this the families eldest child Lettice with mothers maiden name Morgans

LETTICE  JANE DAVIES     mothers maiden name MORGANS
GRO Ref: 1847  Sept Qtr PEMBROKE  Vol 26  Page 656

A family tree on Anc suggests the parents married 10 October 1846 at  Pembroke St Mary, Pembrokeshire

Added - From FreeBMD

Marriage Dec Qtr 1846
William Davies -Martha Morgan  Pembroke    26   1099

Thank you again.  This certainly sounds like 'my' William & Martha  :).  I will definitely follow up on the  registry you mentioned.  Thanks for the tip.

Thank you for all your help. It is very confusing at times, I find I am going around in circles. ;) Who would have thought  that there would be so many William & Martha Davies in Wales lol. Thanks again.  Stay safe.
