..."real parents"......"foster parents"....."life parents"....."bio-parents"...

I think it would help to have some consistency here..........

maybe....birth parents .....foster parents.

I agree with wivenhoe...real = bio (biological) & foster = life (those who brought him up).

Maybe posting a snip or more if needed (in parts) to show exactly what's written & how (context) for others to grasp would be helpful as it's difficult at times without seeing how things are on docs. to work out possibilities?

I am not nitpicking, but useful to you using a forum to assist with your family research........ ie origins of your father.

This is how you have described information on the birth certificate -

28th October 1912 at 6 Fairmead Road
Ronald son of Ronald Richardson BARNES &  Annie Laura Barnes formerly HOPPER. Father was a baker of 146 Holmesdale Road South Norwood.  Annie was the informant and gave her address as 6 Fairmead Road.

then, you comment -

"... the last name RICHARDSON was added on a different handwriting"

The birth certificate information does not give RICHARDSON as a last (family) name.

We need to be really clear about the original birth certificate.....and later amendments.

Do you mean you have a a copy of the birth certificate, and someone, maybe a family member, earlier researcher, has added something to a family copy of the certificate........or

Your copy of the birth certificate was issued by GRO, and includes an amendment. Amendments are not casually made to a birth certificate, and would be notated to show the date, and authorisation (name of person) for the amendment.

Using upper case for family names is also helpful.

I should've been clearer, RICHARDSON was added on a certificate of registry of birth. I believe it was added by a family member, to make the adoption process easier. I will try to use capatilised last names from now on. An image of the certificate of registry of birth is below. This is not the same birth certificate from the original post.

Thank you for scanning this document. I am not able to read the text in red.

It would be useful to know what this document is because it does not look like a birth registration, which would have space for birthplace, and parents' names. It must be issued for a specific purpose.

Can you write up the words in red text...below "Certificate of Registry of Birth"....and include the handwritten information.

The names further on are not so important, unless they are witness or informant.

At the bottom of the document is has -

                                    Notice

Can you transcribe the words following....This document........

Can I just add i looked at this post and the original full birth certificate did show on this post to start with but was removed as we are not allowed to post full documents.  You now are showing the shortened version.

What date was the full birth certificate completed by the registrar, you show the shortened version as being completed on 11 November 1912

I think we are getting bogged down in "what the certificates say".

The 'long certificate' shows full details given by the informant and should be treated as the original document.  The 'short certificate' shows less information which is copied (not always accurately!) from the original document.  Any amendments on the 'long certificate' are important.

From earlier posts:
birth occurred at 6 Fairmead Road, 28 Oct 1912, Tufnell, Islington
Father: Ronald Richardson BARNES, baker of 146 Holmesdale Road, South Norwood
Mother: Annie Laura BARNES, formerly HOPPER

Girl Guide found that 6 Fairmead Road had a midwife on the 1911 census, so that is a dead end.

Whether young Ronald was fostered or formally adopted may never be known.

The birth found by wivenhoe could be worth checking:
BARNES, Evelyn  Winifred Ada Knight     mms.   HOPPER  1911  JunQ     ISLINGTON  Vol 01B  Page 144
BARNES, Ronald     mms.      HOPPER  1912  DecQ     ISLINGTON  Vo  01B  Page 270

Our challenges, as I see them, are to identify Annie Laura HOPPER, to identify Ronald Richardson BARNES, to work out if BARNES was an assumed name, and to see if there is a relationship between Ronald Richardson BARNES and Albert RICHARDSON.

(I am still hunting for a family link between Albert and Ronald snr, but haven't found one yet!)
