Where is Solomon Norton 1901 Census?

Solomon and Elizabeth Howarth were married 25 March 1899 Stalybridge Cheshire they had a son William born 18 Feb 1900 but on the 1901 census Solomon is missing, Elizabeth is listed as head of family he reappears on the 1911 census with his family. I have searched for him but he is not showing up can any of you find him for me ? New eyes needed .

He could have been in South Africa for the Boer War. The Second Boer War was fought from 11 October 1899 until 31 May 1902. The British Army started off with 12,546 men in South Africa when the war began, but the number of officers and men actually employed from first to last, during the war, was officially given as 448,435.

No details of birthyear/birthplace given in your post but for any search purposes - was he b 1869 Stalybridge?

When William was baptised in April 1900 his fathers occupation was a Labourer

Morning Carol, I do not have his birth details as yet but from details on his marriage certificate when he was 27 in 1899 he was born c 1872 and his father was William that’s as much as I have. Your help is received with Thanks Blu

Have you found him on censuses prior to marriage?  The only Solomon Norton on the 1881 census has parents Bernard & Sarah.  Sarah's maiden name was Walker but no marriage found

Stalybridge can be shown as Lancashire or Cheshire on Censuses but the only Solomon Norton birth is in the Oldham RD which does not cover Stalybridge

You say his father was William - did that info come from his 1899 marriage cert?

Yes his fathers name William is off  wedding certificate that has been the problem after checking lancs and ches births there does not seem to be a match, he is also listed as deceased. I have found 3 deaths sept 1884 born 1850 age 34
           Mar 1891 born 1838 age 53
           Jun  1897 born 1897 age 40
