Hi, for reference could the 1901 census information be added please. Presuming that we are in the Manchester Registration District?

Were Hannah & Samuel the only children born in the UK to Betsey?

Here is the 1911

Unfortunately I am having trouble attaching the record Rosie99 refers to.

I could not find the source again on Ancestry or FindMyPast under the 1901 censuses but I have a Public Record Office document ref RG13/3725 which is apparently the census return

Administrative County Lancaster, Civil Parish Broughton, County Borough Salford, Ward Albert Park
30 Peter Street Betsy Leinwoll is listed with 4 children including a 1 month old child

also I wouldn't read anything into the difference between Salford and Manchester. The border winds around in that area, often splitting roads

Maybe she did not register the birth.  Did she register the other childrens births or were they done by her husband

I suspect you may be right and that she relied on her late husband to register the births. Which probably means that the mystery cannot be solved

Mysteries that cannot be solved, that is one of first things you learn when you start on your family history isn't it. Along with I wish I had asked more questions whilst my parents, grandparents etc. were still alive or maybe that should be I wish I had listened more.
